Navigating the art of negotiation can be like trying to find the perfect outfit for a first date: you want to come off as confident, prepared, and totally in control, while still being true to yourself. It’s crucial to master this skill, whether you’re aiming for a salary bump, clinching a business deal, or even negotiating rent. So, to help you win in your next negotiation, here are the top dos and don’ts to keep in mind. Let’s dive in and make sure you’re ready to nail it!

1. Do your homework! 

Research is key! Get the deets on the person or company you’re negotiating with. Understand their needs and how they typically roll in negotiations. This way, you can tailor your approach and be one step ahead. 

2. Don’t go in without a plan.

Seriously, winging it is a no-go. Without a strategy, you’ll seem unprepared and they might just walk all over you. Know your stuff and how to steer the conversation.

3. Don’t be afraid to ask for more.

Like, don’t sell yourself short! It’s totally okay to ask for what you deserve. If you don’t, you might end up regretting it and feeling like you missed out.
