Scaling your personal brand: it takes work!

Growing your influence and your brand is no easy feat. It has taken me years of hard work and I still have goals to get bigger and better as a brand and influence. It is essential to be in tune with your brand, and in order to grow, you have to know how. Are you ready?

1. Leverage Social Media Platforms

You have to know what social media platforms to use, when to use them, and how often to post. There is nothing wrong with looking at one app/site and trying to consistently build at the beginning on one platform. Not all of them. I made a huge mistake when I started years ago of trying to have a presence on every platform and it’s a waste of time. You can’t be everywhere at once, so it’s important you focus on where you main market is and expand from there. Have no idea? Interview your audience.

2. What’s Your Niche?

You can’t do it all! It’s not possible to be every type of brand at once. I was coaching a successful lawyer this week and she’s trying to build a personal brand. Let’s just say, my work is cut out for me with this one! Most people don’t think of personal brands as lawyers.

You can’t be “health and fitness” AND “financial advice” AND “parenting advice” AND “tech tips and tricks” because you’re halfway to burnout. It is essential to hone in on what your content is.

People who want what you’re providing will be drawn to your content and stick with you as you grow. There’s always room to expand your brand in the future, but going too big too fast might just result in you going home.

3. Collaborate!

This is my favorite tip. Reach out to industry experts as early on in your career as possible. The best way to grow your brand is to get eyes on it! Collaborating with other creators gets their viewers eyes on you, and can only increase your follower count.

Reading Update: Key Takeaways!

I’m halfway through "The Power of Different" by Gail Saltz. As someone who struggled tremendously in middle and high school and was constantly having people try to diagnose me with every disorder out there, this book hits.

Everyone is unique and obviously our brains operate differently—how we think, learn, or just do our thing in life and at work.

The book is so relatable and easy to get into, and I highly suggest this for parents. I saw bits of myself in the chapters about distractibility and anxiety, which was eye-opening (and a bit of an “aha” moment for me). But heads up if you’re the type who self-diagnoses a lot, this book might make you go a bit overboard thinking you have everything she talks about. Definitely something more for the pros to handle.

For those into brain stuff and breaking down mental health stereotypes, this book is a gem. But it might hit home more if you’re already navigating your own brain differences.
